Fun in Carmel during the 4th of July Week

We had a blast all cramped into our home in Carmel.  We slept 8 adults and 2 kids... in 3 bedrooms and a garage.  But, when you love the company you're with, it doesn't matter!  We spent the 4th on the beach...  it was CROWDED.  I have never seen it so busy.  Jed loved digging a hole with the boys and I spent most of the day with Riley at the house.  In the evening we brought a pasta salad down to the beach and made fire-roasted hot dogs and SMORES!!!  Jed was in heaven!

Riley got to hang around and eat on the beach.  She wanted get down so badly!
My sister, Lauren and her boyfriend DJ roasting their hot dogs.  We had such a great time spending multiple days with them!  They drove 7+ hours up Highway 1 from Malibu to Carmel.  They said it was gorgeous!
My dad, Jesse, Bill and Joni Carveth enjoying dinner.
Jed was NOT into smiling this trip... I have so many pictures with this face.
The ONLY family picture we took... oops!
Jed loved the "American Flags"... we learned about them all week.
Riley and DJ have such a sweet connection.  They got some good playing time!

Malcolm and Michele Ghazal joined us as well.
We finally let Riley down onto the sand... SHE LOVED IT.  She was soooooo happy!
Sand in her mouth... no problem!

Jed practicing his 2 thumbs up.

Learning about the American flag... Jed even made his own flag!
(Poor Riley in Jed's old PJ's...)

We loved checking out the tide pools just up the street.

Jed was digging in all the caves... for shells of course.

 A little photo fun.

Riley loved getting in on the action.

Possibly the highlight of the weekend was dinner on Friday night... mmmmmmmm... Heirloom tomato bruschetta, crab cakes with an avocado, lime, and cilantro emulsion, roasted veggies and sword fish.  WOW.  It was soooo delish.  The best part was getting in the kitchen with my family.  We have always loved cooking together and consider it a great tradition!

Jed loved the crab cakes!  He is still a little camera shy.

On Saturday, while the guys were golfing, Jed found his happy little spot by the fountain where he proceeded to make pretend calls to all of his people (just like the adults)... telling them about the garbage trucks, pretend ordering new "axilrods" for his monstor trucks that crashed...  It was SOOOO funny!
We picked fresh lavender...  it was SO good!

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic weekend!  We loved spending time with you!
